This thread is designed to compliment the "The best navigation system you know" thread.

    PLEASE PLEASE see this site
    http://www.savethelastdance.com/

Have a look at the navigation system. If you keep clicking in random places, you'll find that there is actually quite a bit of info on that site.

Now I want to you do three things:

    1. Find a movie trailer to download.
    2. Find out who the film editor is.
    3. Find out what the director's first feature film was (as director).

By the way, I'm a film enthusiast.

I challenge anyone to find a site with a worse navigation system.

    ANSWERS
Don't look at these until you've tried yourself.

    one. enter enhanced site.
    click the urban images link
    click the quicktime link
click one of the links eg high

    two. enter enhanced site.
    click the wrap party link
follow all the links with the names until you load one that says editor
the editor is PETER E. BERGER, A.C.E.

    three. enter enhanced site
    click the wrap party link
see if you can find the button which scrolls down through the text
    it is "swing kids"

I think there should be international laws against flagrant and irresponsible use of mauve like that. It's simply inhumane. And those dippy little round things that persist in bubbling along after your cursor. Not annoying and superfluous at ALL!

My personal favorite of the moment is Charmed.com (no, it's not the TV show). I went there wanting to see some nicely presented jackets and some ideas on prices. What i got was a pop-up remote control with unfathomable links titles flying all around it like mad sparrows. The site itself will take your modem hostage at gunpoint before eventually assembling one of those crowded, soft-focus, techno-ey pages with accompanying meaningless waffle. Nice!

I also love VectorGate.com mainly for the unneccessary but supremely funny voice overs.

Jumbo.com has one of the worst navigation systems. YUCK!!!

I thought I should try SoftwareBlast.com and it too lead to Jumbo.Com.....

Yep! Not even guessing stuff work. I can NEVER find anything useful on Jumbo, not even search works.

Even SoftSeek.com has been closed. Taken over by ZdNet.com/downloads/

    http://web.icq.com/

Could they possibly cram any more information on to that page?!

Maybe some folks like to have all this information in one place, but I feel overwhelmed with links.

I think there should be laws against opening up a popup window for a navigation system that is annoying and totally relies on flash.

Both my example and AlexW's sample had that.

There's nothing worse that getting to a website's front page, and seeing the message "you need flash installed to view this website - click here to load - click here if you don't have flash"

Whenever I see that I feel like running away fast. It tells me that the navigation system will be annoying, slow to load and it'll feel like flash.

    I'm not anti-flash, but I am anti-UsingFlashForNavigation

The icq web site has been an often referenced "textbook" example of a bad web site for years. Yet it has always had this 50,000 links on the home page structure. I wonder why they have stuck with it. Could it actually work for them? It is kind of like a huge site map right on the home page.

BTW, user research shows that the most commonly used navigation tool is the browser << back button.
