As you know for the last couple of days we have been having some problems with the server and many of you have received a "Server too busy message". I set this message and set the threshold pretty low to give the server some breathing room. We have also taken steps to prevent this from happening in the future.
Some of the steps we have taken include:
- Installing and optimizing more up to date versions of PHP, MySQL and Apache.
- Install the latest vBulletin code which has performance enhancements.
- Enable search flooding here in the forums. You will now only be able to do 2 searches a minute.
- Re index the Forum tables to make them more efficient.
A couple of features have been turned off in the forums to lessen the load slightly. These shouldn't affect the end user in any way nor are they necessary features for the operation of this forum.
Please rest assured that I am monitoring the forums closely, making any changes that help to build a better more efficient community.
Congratulations should go out to the People in the SitePoint office for their hard work in getting the server back in working order in a short period of time.
