If you go into Microsoft Paint and move the cursor into the drawing area, it will show the coordinates in the bottom right-hand corner of the window. But other than that, I don't think there's a way to find the coordinates of the cursor when operating other programs. There are many more people here at SitePoint who are much more tech-savvy than I am, so I could be wrong about that.
if you want to do this outside a browser you could look on google for a simple VB,C program that could do this for you.. if you have no luck just PM me and i can throw some code together its all pretty simple under windows using some libraries and im sure in *nix that feature already exists, you'd just need to find it
