I disagree about site design being work for hire. The U.S. Copyright website states that work for hire applies only under these situations:

    1. Work prepared by an employee within the scope of his or her employment.
2.Work specifically commissioned for use as part of a collective work.
    3. If the parties expressly agree in a signed, written document that the work is considered to be work for hire.

Oh, absolutely, we have not received payment from him since September and have been requesting ever since. We are definitely fair, and would like to do anything than take someone to court. But there does come a time when enough is enough. And I think I am there now. LOL

    Now I'm doubting myself again...

What exactly is the US Copyright on websites? I was always under the impression that the designer retained rights to the the overall design (graphics & code), but the client has the rights to the content. Is that not correct?

    Alls well that ends well

Just wanted to update y'all on the situation with the client. I zipped and handed over the website to him yesterday. In return I asked for confirmation that my company's name and a link to my website remains on the website.

A day later I just got a phone call from my client giving me the contact number of one of his friends who wanted a website done!

    Hope that turns out well!

Glad to hear that everything worked out well in the end, Cyanide, and I wish you all the best with this next client.

    Cyanide,
Excellent, that is why I am real hesitant on trying to sue a client or be really harsh about payment, but I think 7 months is long enough. LOL Good Job to you.
