Does anyone know how sites (e.g. Sitepoint) show up with a smal iconn next to their name inmy Favourites menu (in IE)?
I'd like to do that for my site but am unsure how to go about it.
Thanks.

One way I was able to do this was to create a graphic (about 30 x 30 pixels) and save it as favicon.gif. Then I uploaded it to just about every directory on my server that had HTML pages. Then I surfed to my site, clicked to a random page and bookmarked it. Although IE sometimes has a delayed or selective reaction, the graphic did indeed show up when I viewed my Favorites.
Of course, sometimes my own creativity runs dry and I resort to dipping into my collection of pre-made icon graphics for ideas. The best I've found so far is Jeffrey Zeldman's "Pardon My Icons" at http://www.zeldman.com/icon.html. Always quirky and sometimes disturbing stuff...but still genius.
Hmm...there has to be an easier way to do this!
Or is this really the only way? (...nothing that involved META tags or anything?)

Known as the FavIcon, you'll find plenty of information at http://www.favicon.com
And yes, it's the only way to do it![]()
