ul sitting differently in Firefox and IE

Hi, I have a 3-col header footer layout and I am trying to get an inline unordered list (the main navigation for the site) to sit on the bottom border of the header div. When it is sitting right on the border in Firefox, IE puts the list about 5 pixels above. The main navigation is in a div called mainNav which I have placed inside the header div and given a top value to.

Origianally I had the mainNav div following the header div and tried to get the bottom-border of the mainNav div to accomplish what I am now trying to do with the bottom-border of the header div. But the inline list items simply wouldn't sit where they were suppose to so I am trying another route. I am getting so close to doing this in table so I can be done with it... this stuff is too frustrating!!

A link to where I am developing this site is: http://154.20.114.114:9090/spes_current/spes/jobs.php
and a link to the style sheet:

    thanks for the help.

    nice mess in IE5
anyways it is probably because of the image, i suppose it has margin-bottom or padding-bottom set by default in IE i guess thats the problem..
btw just put * {margin: 0; padding: 0;} in the beginning of the stylesheet and then all elements will have zero margin and padding by default in all browsers.
