Answering Machine, Service, what do you use?

I am trying to figure out the best phone answering system to promote a professional image.

I think the most professional way to go is to get a voice mail account with your local phone company. It sounds like a professional voice mail system instead of a cheap answering machine.

And very importantly, with VM if you're on the phone the customer gets the VM message not a busy signal.
