float and ie

If you take a look at the layout below in Firefox it looks fine. The float works and everything is aligned. But if you look at it in IE, the entire nav is at the bottom of the page.

Is this an error in the code or do I need a hack to fix this?

But the code does validate as 100% XHTML Strict. Any ideas?
