    Hi -

Could someone refer me to a good, free bulletin board service?

I don't even mind trying a CGI option with installing something on my server. The Sitepoint board kicks some major behind, but something like this would be a little too much for my site - I need a simpler board, accessed occassionally by users - but at the same time maintaining a level of control.

    Thanks!

Have you looked at Everyone.net? They offer lots in the way of free, "community" functionality for your site.

Try http://phpbb.com for PHP-based or http://forum.snitz.com for ASP based.

They might be too much for your site but they are definitely worth a look

    Thanks people...

I'll check the URLs you guys sent to me. BTW, I agree, Everyone.net is definitely a place worth looking at, however I just thought that they had too much on their boards - don't need al those features - and I didn't want to overwhelm my users.

    Thanks!

As far as ASP options, James mentioned Snitz, which is good. I've also had good results with ASP-DEV Discussion Forum. For these two and more ASP solutions, check out http://www.aspcode.net/showcat.asp?id=4

the best bet would be phpbb.
i ain't really supportive of everyone.net. used their web-based email and wasn't satisfied.

not much control. not sure about the board community, but if you're fine having users access part of your site elsewhere, you oculd go for everyone.net. if you want mroe ocntrol, get your own script! hehez..

    all the best

zeeshan, if you're still checking this thread out, take a look at Discus.

    http://www.discusware.com

Check out some of the example sites and you'll see that you can make the look fit into your site. It's also very flexible as to the ways you can set it up. There's a free version as well as a Pro version. I wanted the same thing - I didn't want to overwhelm visitors with a ton of features that they probably weren't going to use and I didn't want to have to administrate all of them, either. Boards like this one and all the various similar ones are excellent for computer literate communities. They're way too much if you just want a simple message board with a few of the options.

I wound up with Discus and am extremely happy with it, and have not had anyone tell me that they can't figure out how to post on it. This has been a problem on some sites even with EZboards in the past.
