Hey! First of all, I want to say Hi and I just joined the Sitepoint Fourm community. Its a great site by the way.

I will be starting a site really soon. I am researching on my advertising space and my web hosting(which I will write on the web hosting section).

I am also interested in the CPM system. Since I will start selling advertising a little after I start my site, I am going to sign up for a advertising company. Burst media is what I am looking to.

I know Id probably not get this rate, but I am looking for a $6+ CPM rate.

My predictions of the site traffic after 6 months is 1,000,000+(which I doubt anyway).

If luckily I will ever get that traffic, what CPM rates do you think I would expect.

    Thanks.

P.S. If I seemed a little questionable in this article, sorry.

at first you may expect US$2 or $3..
because site like SPF also gets US$10 or 12$ CPM.
That is something like this only..
    so..
after your traffic increases you can increase the CPM gradually and steadily..

by the way how would you promote your website??

With Burst you may make $2 or $3 CPM at the most. But they take a 50% commission so thats only $1.50 CPM.

And they will serve maybe 50% defaults so thats only $.75 CPM

    Not much is it?

Its very very hard to get good rates through ad networks now adays. If you sell your own advertising and have a good relationship with the advertisers you can command much higher prices like SP does.

But in today's market you can expect to need about 100k impressions a month to get a monthly check (actually my site gets more than that but I don't get a monthly check.)

Around $1 - $2 CPM, depending on the content of your site. If its "user generated" such as a forum or online game, then you'll probably have to look into CPC advertising as an alternative.

    Thanks for posting replies guys.

Well, my site will be pretty much user generated. I will probably look into some really short term CPM advertising with NO contract for the first few months. If still the site stays with low traffic(high possibility), Ill go for the alternative CPC or just stay with the low CPM.

Well see what happens in the future.

Hopefully, I will do a little promoting of my site. I already have ADDWEB PRO 4.0. I hope that helps. Well just see.

And ASPEN, your site gets 100k hits a month. That's over a million a year. You can sign up for many companies and get a high CPM.

Well, hopefully in the near future my site does something good.....

PS I just put my ICQ number in my profile.

I would suggest switching approaches and trying CPC advertising when your site is growing and not receiving much traffic. You may also want to look into some per-lead and per-sale advertising which can also work quite well for lower traffic sites.

Once your traffic builds, you may then look into come CPM based advertising.

Apart from the improved results from trying click, lead and sale advertising, you would most likely find it hard to get accepted into any CPM network with low traffic anyway.

This is what I found anyway.
