CSS FAQ thread question...

I know there is a FAQ on having a footer stay at the bottom of the screen that is 100% width I think. My question is, is this technique the same that should be used for a footer to stay at the bottom of the screen and not be 100% width?

Example: Here is the website I'm working on, http://www.geocities.com/deronsizemore/index2.htm

what I want is a footer that stays at the bottom of the page and is 750px in width (the width of the site)

Generally, you have to make a decision about whether to go for a static or a fluid layout in the beginning. Fluid layout's are generally a bit better on the accessibility side, but static ones can be done pretty well too. Static layout's give the designer more control over how the site will appear in traditional browsing environments, so if this is what you have decided, I see no reason why your footer can't be a fixed width.

Providing you do it correctly of course

I guess i'm confused on fluid and static? I realize static more or less stays the same in all situations??? What is a fluid site?

Absolutely position the 750px footer to the bottom, left of the 100% height container.

Static sites look more or less like regular table based sites, everything stays in the same position...

fluid ones are stretch to suit the resolution of your screen...

There are loads of ways to create either style, some better than others. I'm not sure which is the best approach in the long run. Suffice to say, if you manage a full css layout it'll tick a lot more boxes than one that uses traditional layout techniques
