I found a while back (when I was in university) that while studying, music helped me focus and drown the outside out. Now that I am out of university, I still listen to music to get me "into the zone" of creativity.

I've got about 10Gb of .ogg and mp3 files that I listen to randomly on Winamp, and it automatically feeds my website: www.mymp3s.co.uk

I find the best music to work with is Vivaldi, particularly his Cello concertos played by Christopher Hogwood and The Academy of Ancient Music on Decca L’Oiseau-Lyre.

I usually have the tv on in the background, but I often play music on the computer. Music is good for designing too.

    I do

Mostly alternative rock and some 80´s and 90´s. It makes things easy when you're creating or drawing a design.

Depends on my mood and the type of work.
In the mornings I start up with a nice soft jazzy-mellow-funk cd.
I go to lunch and come back for some nice upbeat progressive house dj set.
Late afternoon I ride into a dub session and when I work during the night, its usually an ambient type of melody keeping me company

Uhm, if i'm drawing I call listen to music, but not when coding. I generally listen to house music (and deep prog house), and so when I listen I tend to get in to it and just listen to the music - so it can 't be a bit of a put off

All the dj/producers you listed are among my playlist as well

Looks like a great club! I worked alongside the portuguese dancescene for about 2 years until about 2 months ago. Was ahead of the largest dancemusic portal here in Portugal (www.dancefloor.pt).

Also made a bunch of flyers for a couple of parties with djs like Rob di Stefano, Miguel Migs, and a few others.

Miguel Migs - wow! I have some productions of his on vinyl.

I'm doing a mix for a local radio show in around 2 weeks time, if you want I can post a copy out to you, or even you can grab it from Soulseek if I put on there.

I can code to anything that doesnt have lyrics to it. The words usually distract me a lot. That's why progressive house, dub or just jazzy tracks keep me on the job.

Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, Blink 182, Billy Talent.. stick the stuff full blast with headphones.

I find the "distraction" is beneficial. It means I don't have to sit and concentrate on the code 100%, I can take a breath here and there without getting bored (yeah, I have low patience levels).

On the other hand, drop any caffeine and I'm sure I could code without music

Morning: websites, music, and NPR, all at the same time.

Night: websites, cable TV or NPR, maybe music.

    That works the best.

I listen to every type of music while I work on the computer. If I`m struggling to figure something out I may however turn it off.

I can't stand doing any sort of work without music. I've got 7.5 days worth of music in my iTunes so I can work for a week straight...non-stop...and never hear the same song. Now that's quality.

Sometimes, I do listen to music while programming, working or studying. It helps my concentration and creativity, but I'm not dependent of it. I prefer classic when studying, but enjoy any other types of music while doing any other creative stuff, depending on my mood and the type of activity.

I enjoy silence too, when it's there.
