I often can't work without having some music on in the background![]()

Exactly
I'm currently listening to Mega Dance 2004 Vol 2. Either that just now, or I catch up on (BBC) Radio 1
Nice banging beats just to get the old brain cells into gear I say![]()

During the day i listen to bbc radio 1,
(chris moyles = ledgend, Dogs dont kill people rabbits do!!)
Then in the evening i sometimes listen to radio1 depends whos on or have the tv on in the background for things like simpsons or if thats rubbish too then put on my hip hop / rap cd's mostly listening to jay-z at the moment.

I have a few cd's on rotation for background noise. Nothing to distracting at all like the TV, wouldn't get any work done then if that was on.

I'm listening to Aphex Twin as I design a couple of templates right now![]()
Hmmm music is very important when iam working on comp. But the question is: Which music is best for work and does music change overall quality of work.
For example,if Bill Gates while creating first windows was listening some kind of Japan rock, does windows be the same?;P

I'm always listening to music... Buying a Creative Labs Zen soon.
I listen to a lot of stuff including Lovedrug, Frou Frou, Pedro The Lion, Death Cab For Cutie, Dashboard Confessional, Copeland... Lots of crap. AudioScrobbler can tell you better than I can...![]()

bo5ton...nice vector art in your avatar
haha wow...am I like turning into the avatar critic??

I don't think my computer knows what not having music on is...I usually leave it on even when I am not on the computer! Right now like usual I am listening to Linkin Park, and then I like to listen to most any other alt rock.
I'm an old guy, so I listen to either 50's-60's R&R, or a web radio station with that format. I get a big kick out of Brando Classic Radio with 40's and 50's radio shows, especially the mystery shows. I find that music/radio theater helps block out other distractions.
For me, anything visual is too distracting, but "theater of the mind" is not. I don't see how anyone can actually work and watch at the same time, but maybe it's possible.
I like to have something rythmic and without words like classical or african music.
I also have the greatest radio station where I live with tons of variety. They are also an online broadcast pioneer: http://www.kexp.org/

When I do any kind of developing on the web I find that music is more distracting than anything. If my favourite kind of music is playing, I pay more attention to the music than the screen.![]()

usually something with double bass like Gamma Ray, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica or Children of Bodom.
(i can't type well without something setting down a groove in the background)

Personally i need total silence to code and think straight. It allows me to focus more on the task. Although, i have found i get more work done if i'm talking to someone on msn at the same time. I think it's just like an excuse to take a break every 10 minutes to chat for a couple seconds. If i'm not coding, usually listening to Hip hop, rap, comedy styles and a little punk rock.

I just have the same two 'Free' CDs looping around endlessly. That way I can listen to some good music, without it getting too distracting. (; Those angsty guitar riffs are a perfect sound to code to.

I listen to Nirvana
