    .htaccess problem

I want to use redirect functionality of .htaccess. It looks so simple yet I am having some problem using it. Please advice me. My previous site was written on pure html but the new one is written on asp.net I have the following folder structrure

htdocs is the root of the public folder. It has two folders 'Main' and 'New'. 'main' has the old site files and 'New' has the new site files (.aspx) (Please note that the new files does not necessarily conrresponds to old files in terms of naming)
Once the new site it up, I want to be able to redirect request to old files to new files. I tried using following statements in .htaccess file and put that on htdocs folder but it blocks the access to whole site.

    Code:
    Redirect /htdocs/main/a.htm http://www.mysite.com/new/m.aspx
    Code:
    Redirect /main/a.htm http://www.mysite.com/new/m.aspx
    Code:
    Redirect /htdocs/main/a.htm http://www.mysite.com/htdocs/new/m.aspx
None of above seems to work. I am pretty sure I am missing something stupid.

htaccess can't be used on a ms type server, from the sound of things, you're using iis for the server am i right?

htaccess only works for the apache server only.
    i love php
