    Hi Sitepointers,
I have something I always wanted to know about traffic and profit. My site is getting about 500 to 1000 unique visitors a day and I make about $10 to $20 a day, generating about 2cents+ per unique visitor. I would like to know if this is high or low, for my type of site, freebie stuff, http://www.free4all.nu

I hope also that you could post your stats in this forum, your uniques, your profit, income per visitor, as well as your url, so I could briefly know if I still have space for upgrades.

    Please feel free to reply...

I would think that is about average. There is a person over at another webmaster forum who makes $.11 with his freebie site. E-mail me for his name, site, the forum he goes to, or whatever if you want to know. $.11 is a ton of money once it adds up.

Now, let's see what I make. I make less than a penny per person, but I just started using Netsetter, and in less than 30 minutes, 1 person had signed up. If that keeps up, I will be making $400 CPM! Now, that would make $2 a person. But, that's if it keeps up. In a day, I probably will be making about $.02-$.05 a visitor hopefully.

I think the information your asking for is probably too commercially sensitive for most web masters.

As far as averages go i don't think there is anything as an average. It depends on your CPM rates and the number of ads your running per page, plus the level of clicks per day your site generates.

Unless you're getting paid per impression (not many programs for that and you need meg traffic to qualify) IMO better to concentrate on good visitors and not just traffic.

Better to have 100 qualified potential sales visitors than 1,000 casual lookers.

I would think that 500-1000 unique visitors a day and $10-$20 per day is extremely good. Especially since your site is fairly new (isn't it?).

There seems to be something about "Free Stuff" sites which attracts a lot of visitors. I would love to have that many visitors to my site, which is a content-based Webmaster resource site, and am trying to do as much as possible to get the word out.

I guess if I projected the income I receive from the traffic I get, I would be getting around the same, if not more than that. But a projection does not mean much at all I guess.

May I know if the visitors from reciprocal linking and banner links are quality traffic. I once ran a affiliate program and I know the traffic I get doubles or tripled, but the quality of the traffic is down tenfold. I would like to know what form of traffic is the most qualified, as well as their rank in providing qualified traffic. In my opinion, the rank is as follows:

    1) Search Engines
    2) Content specific directories
    3) Reciprocal links

These are in my opinions. May I have your opinions please?

I'd agree unless the search engines included pay per click search engines such as goto, sprinks and findwhat. In which case the quality of referrer is much lower.

hangwei: I believe if you have reciprocal links with sites closely realted to your own, the traffic from these will be of the highest quality. For example, If they are already visiting a webmaster sight, and then click through to another Webmaster sight, they are likely to be interested in Webmaster things.

Secondly I would say search engines, but with exceptions. If your descriptions and meta tag descriptions discribe exactly what is on that particular page and not just what your site is about, you are more likely receive quality traffic. For example, in your case if a visitor searched for "free url submission" on a search engine and received two results, one of which the description was "TONS OF TOTALLY FREE STUFF" and another being "A sorted list of high quality free URL submission services to some of the web's best search engines" they would be more likely to click on the second of these two. Even if they pointed at the same page. And the traffic would be of higher quality as they know exactly what to expect from that link.

Same goes for directories I would think, if you are in a good category specific to your site, that's great, but make sure your description is specific to the content on your site.

    Omair Haroon:
Per lead means that every time someone clicks on a link from your site and takes some kind of action, you get paid. This action could be for example, signing up for a newsletter or service, downloading some software or performing a search.

Reciprocal links are best if you can ally yourself with another site that doesn't conflict with your own business.

Very true, or a site that is competing but is visably worst in every way.

I think it doesn't work for freebies sites, cause if a visitor already visited another freebie site and signed up for most of the offers over at that site, then when he comes to my site, he will only be seeing the same offers and I make nothing out of him.

Maybe you should try and think something new and unique to set yourself apart from the other "free stuff" sites. This seems like a very competetive categoty, so any unique feature will help out.

    Omair Haroon:
Sounds like a good start. However, I would keep the ideas coming. This alone is not likely to be the best base to build a quality site on.

Have your looked through CJ.com and ClickXchange.com for other suitable commission based programs? You could also try looking at www.referit.com
