good way to learn php? Good books? (absolute beginner)

    Hello there everyone

I'm just wondering what is the best way to learn php? I have basic html knowledge, and no computer programming language knowledge. As discussed in another thread, I'd eventually like to make my own web-browser-based internet game! I was told that php is what I should look to learn (and after checking out a few web-browser based games that where written using php, I agree so far!)

Soooo, can any of you recomend any good beginner php books? I already installed apache, php, and MySQL on my computer already and tested them, they all work, so I'm ready to go! Just looking for a good book to learn from! Any suggestions? Thanks!

PHP By Example is an extremely good book to learn from. I have a copy here that ive read 4 times last year and it really does help!

    Yes, that's a good book.

    I also recommend:

i'd say save your money and start by reading the php beginner articles on this site and the 5 part 'php 101' series on devshed. php 101 in particular will start you off at the very basics and includes introductions to functions, arrays, mysql databases, conditional statements (if...else), and file manipulation
