I noticed a lot of sites are changing the color of the scroll bar. Do you think this is just a fad, or is it the future? Colored scrollbars! heh. I'm just curious. Would you change the color of the scrollbars on your site, or leave them the way they are?

It may or may not be a fad but it looks really good when it is used with some good colors

I would not do it on all sites, but I will be doing it on my most recent site.
The way I look at it, it can't hurt if it is done well. If a user has IE 5.5 then they see something additional, if they have any other browser , then they see nothing...nothing to lose by adding them in.Adobe Certified Coldfusion MX 7 Developer

I agree...they are pretty cool!
They can completely change the look of a site in my opinion, if you can view them. It just conforms the site more to your style needs--I say go for it.

I don't like them or use them.
Nothing against any of you personally, it's just:
- Many people have their OS colour scheme set to a custom colour, so if they are expecting all scroll bars to be x colour, they'll glance across the page expecting to see an x colour scroll bar.
- If the scroll bar is not the expected colour, it makes me have to look for it, and sometimes this is hard. Even though my colour scheme is the usual grey 3d stuff, if the scroll bar blends in with the colour scheme of a site, and is not grey, then it is really hard to find!! It looks like part of the site, if you look at it briefly.
See http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/index.html for a scroll bar colour that does this. I don't like it! Go into their home section. Also a coloured scroll bar, but not as bad.
By the way I have nothing to do with this site, it's just the only site on my favorites that I can remember having a custom scroll bar.

I don't see what the big deal with colored scroll bars is. It doesn't do any harm, IMO - it only works in IE 5. Like favicons, if you don't like them, don't look at them, but they don't cause any harm.

I think it depends on how people use it. If someone uses a color scheme for the bar that doesn't "hide it" or make it hard to find, then it is ok (as long as it also suits the site). I think for most sites, it is not necessary to change the color of it.

Westmich, did you make that file attachment? Or is that from another site? I'd like to use that on a site of mine if it is ok?

i dont think they're amazing... but if i head a site with frames and scroll bar then i would definitly consider blending an innner frame with one of those colored scroll bars...
just curious but could it be done with a text area form?? unlikely??DIEGO MOORE
