    Using MySQL DB with .htaccess

I would like to use .htaccess to secure my website. I would like to use a MyQL database to store the usernames and passwords etc.

To do this I need to add the following:

Auth_MySQL_Info <host> <user> <password> (this points the MySQL database which is on a different server to my site)

to the httpd.conf file on my web server. HOWEVER, I can't see this file?? I assume that this may be because the web server I use is shared with a lot of other customers and that they would be affected by this too??

Is there anything I can do? Or do I need my own server?

    Thanks

    Estella

If you are using a shared host you will not be able to edit that file. You'll need a dedicated server (i.e. you are the only customer on it) to have that kind of control.

I thought that might be the case.

    Thanks for the advice
