Community Crier

As all of you who received the Community Crier in your inboxes this week will know, there is a section in the newsletter for member submitted articles.

These articles should be 400-500 words in length, on any topic to do with webmastering that you think might be of interest to our members.

If you wish to submit and article please email me stating "Crier Article Submission" in the subect line. Note that you get a 3 line signature with any article submission, so if you think you have something to say then get in touch!

I'm currently writing articles for one site (well, they're not done, but you get the idea). all ASP oriented. I should ask Shane for a partnership.

Also, seeing as how anti-ASP some of the PHP users are around here I'm not sure how much they'd appreciate ASP articles dropping into their inbox's.

How do I sign up to recieve the community crier? I get techtimes + sitepoint tribune already but this is the first I've heard of this newsletter.

Go into your user control panel and click on "Edit Options". It is the first option on the page.

In the Profile section under the 'Edit Options' section there's an option 'I would like to receive the community newsletter the "SitePoint Community Crier"?'.

Nicky, shhhhh!

Actually, time has been very much NOT on my side in the past month or so. I have a musical coming up in 30-some days. We're still not ready (actors are bad, not enough props, lighting stinks). For example: I spent two hours the other day in the catwalk above my school adjusting light bulbs.

Other than that, I still have school work. I have to finish my school's web site in (preferably) under 90 days.

Other than that, I'm on the baseball team, and in every band thing imaginable (therefore, my school days are usually 7:00-6:00 PM instead of the usual 8:00-2:45 PM).

And besides that, I still manage to post on SitePoint!

Nevertheless, Nicky, the Challenge has been met. What do you want the article on, dealing with ASP? I mean, Databases? Files? The basics were covered by Kevin, I believe. I'm going to write an article on COM and VB6 soon, "Creating a Simple Active Server Component". That should do it.

Thanks Goober you are a star! And you finish school at 14.45???????? I didn't finish classes till 16.10 when I was in school, then I had a job till 19.00 and hockey practice 19.00-21.00!!!!

16:10? 14:45? WHY did I go to such a stoopid skool?

We got up at 6:00am, had to eat gravel for breakfast, went to work before school started at 7:15am, did a full morning's work, gravel for lunch, afternoon of work, home at 6:00pm, gravel for dinner, out to work until 5:30am and then back up for 6 again.

You lot had it SO easy. Why in my day......

Maybe something on Planning and coding your script. Kindof how to start on the right path?

How long should an article be for the Crier? Also, is there any way we can get articles published at Sitepoint itself?

Articles for the Crier are usually about 500 words. You could try submitting one and if it works out (ie people like it), then you could reword it, make it more substantial and submit it to SitePoint.
