A Firefox Challenge
Hello,
I may (or may not) have a challenging question for the Firefox advocacy crowd.
I'm developing an Intranet site for a research department in my company, and I want to use Firefox as the default browser for all the analysts.
With IE, I can link directly to folders on the network and bring them up in a *folder* window. Firefox, however, auto-generates an html page with links to the individual files, essentially providing an html display of folder contents. (sorry, no screenshot)
Is there any way in Firefox to allow direct access to the folder? This would several benefits. For instance, shortcuts don't seem to work through the intermediary html. Also, it would allow the deletion of files, editing filenames, sorting the display, etc.
I'm guessin there isn't. Hacks and workarounds are welcome.

I'm not aware of any. The main reason IE does it is that it has a (not-so) secret double life as the windows desktop/filesystem browser, which gives it access to all sorts of OS functionality that a third-party browser can't even dream of.
