Hi there, could you please check out www.mostlyamphigory.com
I use a stylesheet called /navbar/style.css
Here it is:
______________________
A {
font-color: #000070;
text-decoration: underline;
}
A:hover
font-color: #0000FF;
text-decoration: underline;
}
.toplinks {
font-color: #ffffff;
text-decoration: none;
}
.toplinks:hover {
font-color: #ffffff;
text-decoration: underline;
}
BODY {
background-color: #ffffff;
}
.maintable {
background-color: #FFF0C0;
}
.secondtable {
background-color: #E5D49B;
}
____________________
The .maintable and .secondtable are working in both IE and netscape but the link colors and text-decoration aren't
In IE the A doesn't work
In netscape the A and the A.toplinks don't work
How do I fix it?
If you get there and it is working, then it has already been fixed.

Well..Is it fixeD? LOL
Anyway, a solution would be to properly specify your styles.
Set a default:
a {}
a:link {}
a:visited {}
a:hover {}
a:active {}
for setting other type of A links,
make you set all 4, or 3 ( excluding a:hover ).
eg.
a.toplinks:link {}
a.toplinks:visited {}
a.toplinks:hover {}
a.toplink:active {}
thray set a.toplinks {} if you have any defualt styles for all <a href="" class="toplink"></a> elements.
If you don't understand, make a post and i'll explain it more detailed. haha..I still don't know if you already fixed it. *grin*"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."

okay no it isn't quite fixed yet
Thanks for the quick reply
The
A {
font-color
etc - doesn't seem to work on the front page.
It should make the links on the page dark blue whether visited or not.
the toplinks has been fixed, but in netscape the hover doesn't work (it's like that on all sites with NS so don't worry).

ok thanks!
I should have looked at one of my other pages to check!!
I will fix it now...
[edit]
FIXED! Thanks lynlimz!
I should be more careful.
By the way I'm using stylesheets so for things like the table colours, so I can keep the colour scheme the same all over the site. If the viewer doesn't have stylesheets at the moment, some of the tables will be light blue. Doesn't matter too much. 4% of my visitors may get the old colour schemethat's all
Using SSI for the header too. Cool ey? My first ssi, and my first external stylesheet link.Last edited by mmj; Mar 16, 2001 at 07:43.

yes...
I've used ASP a bit. Now on a new server, and I will teach myself PHP in the future. There's a good beginner's guide on the sitepoint homepage that I will refer to.
Then I'll be able to access the articles by php, it'll be good.

I've been watching this thread from interest.
It's funny that the topic seemed to change from css to talking dogs to post counts...
Keep up the good work, and thanks again lynlimz for the answer.

I've been laughing at that too. THe way I look at it, if we answer the question, then we should get to make a post that is off-topic right?

yes.
no problems...
By the way I've just taught myself PHP (it is very easy - especially for a c/c++/java veteran) and I've created a totally database driven site.
http://www.mostlyamphigory.com/
The only non-database bits under this domain are the news and about page (the news page soon to be replaced by a script for fetching news from the database).
Still struggling with the css in netscape though, but I'll do a bit of research on that. I think the problem is that the way I'm doing it is WRONG and that IE is too forgiving.

netscpae doesn't support some attirbutes, or is buggy at some of them.
tkae a look at this page if you haven't.

Uh huh.
Well I had a look at a variety of web sites and instead of using the style property border-width, etc - they use a nested table inside another table, where the table has a cellspacing of 1 pixel to create an outline.
I've done that now. On my page there is now a border around the boxes on the left in both NS 4.x and IE 4-5.x.[mmj] My magic jigsaw

it's because Netscape does not fully support the border attribute.
