It was ages since I've played it. It's basically just really eeriee. You wake up on SS Braun-Rickenbacker, a space vessel way out in outer space on it's way to to populate alpha centuari. You wake up out of cryosleep, and have all kinds of wierd implants on yourself. You soon find that the ship has been overrun by very strange (and bloody scary) creatures that mumbles things as "the many sings to us" and "silence the discoooord" and that almost nobody is left alive. You are ENOURMOUSLY short on ammo all the time, and enemies have really random patrol. You constantly find little PDAs which contains voice memos from people, telling really frickin' disturbing stories of how the lab monkeys on the ship gradually changes. You walk into some living quarters and back behind a wall to heal your wounds and listen to the audio disc you just found, and just as you finish listening, you hear a "whirrrrrr" from the door opening that I will forever associate to the cyborg midwifes that will kill you faster than you can blink if you don't have armour piercing ammo on hand (which you almost never have on hand).

if I make a horror game, I'm going to make a word at the bottom of the screen very very subtely visible, which only becomes clear when you turn up the gamma: "Pansy!"

    Comment over on /.

I haven't tried Doom 3 myself yet, but judging by your comments I think you would like a game like The Suffering [midway.com] a lot more. I've completed the game two times, and I can certainly say that it is *really scary*, but not in the traditional Resident Evil way. Monsters rarely jump right out of nowhere to give you the whole "suprise-chock" (IIRC this only happened once or twice in the game). If you like scary games, I'm convinced you'll like The Suffering a lot better.

Hmmm... My Monitor has an "UltraBright Mode" which is only a push of a button. Wouldn't believe how much it helps games and video come to life.

Huh? he looks like me nextdoor neighbour, hardly scary (just being silly)

Try playing doom The screenshots dont do a single bit of justice on how bloody scary the game is! Almost the entire game is spent with shivers down my spine

    I have a Radeon 9600 XT.
Have it high detail (makes seeing in dark areas much easier) at 800x600. It looks quite good and runs acceptable (60fps+ I think).

What full story? the Doom story ?

Doom is about the UAC which is a research facility which is developing some teleportation technology. they accidentally open a gateway to hell. thats why all the zombies and demons come around

Thats pretty much it I think, the rest of the game just seems like fun
