Someone I know is not happy with their current webmaster, and want to hire me as their new webmaster.
What information do I need from the original webmaster?
Thanks,
Elan!

FTP username and password, IP address (if any). Control panel password (if any) if the client want you to have full reign of the site. mySQL database name, username, and password (if different from any of the above). You can see the current file structure once you log in, so no issues there. What else?

Did the guy/gal make any uncommon change/settings (like fetching file from some other server, or backing up to other hosts,...)
And don't forget to change the pwd if needed. Ask him/her for contact info just in case!

Howdy!
I agree with the others, but as important--check to see if there was any type of contract between the two parties.
You definitely don't need any legal trouble for your efforts!
GOOD LUCK!!
