cheers Dan, I think I even read that on SitePoint.

As a developer its hard to explain to a client what SEO 'is all about' I myself admit I dont know the 'field' fully but I do know the principles of creating an optimised site, the problem I have is the backlink part? I just do not have the time or knowledge probably for that matter to find the sites that will be good to get a link back from, I guess from my point of view its a matter of time and also the learning curve of realising I've actually picked the right site. This is where I think SEO companies become more attrative to small firms etc (like mine for example) as we just dont have the resources to source out the sites that will serve us the best. This raises a problem I find in which SEO company to use, as a deveoper I am aware of the scams and blaggers etc just because of my learning experiance, but its hard relating that to a client, do you have any pointers on how to recoginse potential 'link backers', where to find them (the panecea...), and how to approach a website with a view to a link back/to, and also what are your thoughts on trackbacks? or anyone for that matter.

    regards

    Hi...
I am new arround and i think we can learn a lot in these foruns. The quality of the post is very high.

I would like to know if there is anyone here who does SEO in portuguese sites.
Because many tools we have available are manly for english like keywords related tasks. Many tools offer only english search engines.

Anyone use tools that support engines in portuguese ? I usual use WebCeo because its a free tool and supports Google for Portugal and Brasil wich is very useful for me.

IBPromoter, SEO Suite doesnt support as far as i know. I dont know about the well known SEO Elite. I use usally Google.pt, Google KeywordToolExternal.

    Thanks

If you're looking for someone who does SEO in Portuguese, why not post a listing in the SitePoint Marketplace?

I agree with everything stated above.Good answer. Thanks for nice tips.

SEO is possibly the most critical service attracting customers looking for your products or/and services. As I have mentioned earlier here in the forum, building a website without a SEO strategy is almost like opening a store in the middle of the desert - or at the Northpole waiting for accidental customers :-)

I read that Google sees subdomains as separate sites which is what I want. So i'm planning to use keywords in my subdomains (ex. baskets-food.mikaranna.com ) and optimize my pages for those keywords. Will the fact that the keyword is the subdomain name help me in the serps?
    thanks in advance.

Google no longer considers subdomains to be separate sites for SEO purposes.

Are you saying that the subdomain baskets-food.*.* will not help me rank higher for that keyword?
    thanks in advance.

Google has black listed Web Position Gold, so maybe we should remove it from the post!

Got a link to Google BLing WPG, Ram? (I remember hearing it, but I'd like to confirm it before editing the FAQ.)

From Google Webmaster guidelines. I hope this is what you asked for

Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our Terms of Service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.
Here is the URL to it. It is the fourth point under the heading Quality guidelines - basic principles

I went through the FAQ and noticed that stymiee already noted that Google doesn't allow people to use programs like WPG to query their database.

However, there are other things that need to be updated, and a few that can be added. I'll look over the FAQ and see what else needs to be edited/updated/added, okay?

Are you sure about that? I used Brinkster for my first website, since I didn't want to make a large investment and wanted to learn a little first. But I ranked very highly for my subdomain name, which only appears 1 other time in the site. So the name must be worth a little.
