    mysqld warning mac osx

I'm trying to get Apache/PHP/MySQL/DWMX set up on Mac OS X.3

I've got everything down but MySQL. When I try to run mysqld in Darwin I get the following error:

    Code:
    andrew:~ julian$ /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld

    040720 14:57:33 Warning: Can't create test file /usr/local/mysql-standard-4.0.20-apple-darwin7.3.0-powerpc/data/andrew.lower-test

    /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Can't change dir to '/usr/local/mysql-standard-4.0.20-apple-darwin7.3.0-powerpc/data/' (Errcode: 13)

    040720 14:57:34 Aborting
    Anyone get this?

    Thanks!
    Julian

This sounds like a permissions problem. Errcode 13 is permission related.

Insure all the files and directories utilized by MySQL are owned by the correct user. For example, many create a user/group called mysql and run mysql under that user. If you installed as root it may have added root/wheel permissions and is flawing your efforts.

You could chnage the permissions on the directory(s) by issuing chown -R mysql:mysql directoryname (after creating thsi user/group, and then starting mysql with '--user=mysql'

I reinstalled MySQL, and now use a graphical interface called YourSQL, and there seem to be no more problems.
