    using server for spam

    Hello,

    Someone I work with is having trouble with their server. Someone is using it to send Spam. My coworkers currently use Cdonts as their email system and have asked me for help. I am a web editor with some programming skills, but nothing like they will need (to either fix the problem or replace the email system with something else - which may or may not work). I don't expect to solve their problem for them, but I would like to point them in the right direction. Does anyone have any ideas what this could all be about, and the best ways to solve it?

    Thanks,

    Joey

    First thing to check (presuming Windows server b/c CDONTS) is what restrictions are there regarding relaying messages using the IIS SMTP service. You can find it by clicking on the relay button on the SMTP Virtual Server's properties window. If it is set to allow everyone, then that is the problem. Switch it to deny by default and add people who can send, or alternatively, switch on authentication.
