Michael Moore is a propagandist. He's good at what he does though.Originally Posted by dethfire

Well the gun movie was alot better because thats stuff we hardly know about, and is very suprising. Like size me up, by that other guy. When it comes to 11/9 or iraq there hasnt been much we havent seen and havent debated to death. I dont expect to see anything new show in this movie.

I haven't seen the new movie yet but I think it will be pretty bias and more of his personal opinion than anything else.
I shall take this opportunity to kindly remind members that political discussions are not allowed at SitePoint. This is because they have the potential to offend some readers.
As long as this thread discusses the movie it will be allowed, but unfortunately if it discusses politics it will have to be closed or removed.

If you feel it is not possible to discuss the film without putting forward a political point of view, then I would advise you not to attempt it.

As Wayne was poking at, this could be a rather empty thread without even touching on politics.

I am still wondering what Moore gets out of all this? Apart from money and publicity? No, I am not suggesting anything.

The movie is enjoyable as long as you can formulate your own opinions about what you see. Some people will take everything at face value and believe it and others will simply reject anything that puts a bad face on our current leadership.
Just think for yourself.
Side note ... rent Bad Santa which is F***ING hilarious.

Bad Santa is a horrible movie. I hate one funny part, and thats when the kid/midget/santa are fighting. There rest of the movie is boring garbage.

I think if you go so far as to say he's a dog for bashing Bush or to say Bush needs to go then you're getting into politics. With this movie it's hard to have a discussion without getting into politics. The most you can really say is, "I didn't know about that" or "it seemed one-sided to me".

I havn't seen it yet, so I can't really comment. I really have mixed feelings about michael moore. Even though I liked the humor and agreed with the overall messege of bowling for columbine, I don't like the way he went about it making the movie.

Just a thought.
Do you think he might have purposely been so public about his views, including his Oscar rant, in hopes that it would make his movie more "newsworthy" when it came out? He has gotten a ton of free publicity out of the various articles on "the controversial movie" and even this thread is free publicity.
Controversy spurs publicity, just ask Janet Jackson.

He did go so far as to thank conservatives and Republicans for their outcry because it gave him free publicity. That's in a quote from him in a CNN article.

I haven't seen it yet. I doubt I would agree with all of it but I do want to see it. Granted, it's one of those things you have to take with a grain of salt.
He went on The Daily Show and talked about that. He talked about the "right wing conspiracy" that fights to not let him promote his movie, etc. What it boiled down to was that he loved it- he got more promotion that way through free news than he could ever get with regular paid ads.Originally Posted by aspen

The biggest failing I see with those who disparage any "documentary" without first seeing it is that they are blowing wind out their rear end. We all know that this movie is very partisan and has a specific agenda, however, to dismiss it outright without seeing it is to deny the fact that any documentary (propaganda if you prefer) that is well done will be grounded in some truths. Based on the clips the media have shown on TV, I have a hunch that in this movie Mr. GW is his own worst enemy.
I had hoped to see the movie today so that I could form my own informed opinion of the movie, however, the movie was sold out so I'll have to go another day. For those who believe the movie is full of lies, they ought to see the movie so that they can at least argue against the movie in an informed way.
What does beg to be asked, is when will people learn that if they want something like this movie to go away, they should ignore it, not comment on it and at the very least, not make a big stink about it. If those who are the target of this movie and those around those individuals had ignored this movie it would have gotten a lot less free press. Now it is a must see movie simply to see what all the stink is about.
If this movie shows nothing else, it shows that Mr. Moore knows how to push people's buttons and has gotten a whole segment of our population to take the bait by making a big stink.

One part of the movie shows kids in Iraq flying kites, the wind is blowing and the kids are having a great old time.
Yes, Moore, Iraq is a wonderful place.

Maybe the flying kite thing was used to show situational differences in pre and post war Iraq.
I havent seen the movie yet...so I cant really say anything
All I know is that Dubya is the funniest character in the movie...so i heard.
I haven't seen the movie, but going by Moores earlier movies, he likes to do the opposite of what the news media tend to do - i.e. really often show people crying, legs blown off, that kind of stuff. It's one of his primary messages with his movies, as far as I've been able to gather - how the media angles stuff. That's probably also why he angles his own stuff so heavily too.Originally Posted by johnny190
