Yes it should in theory be possible as all you would have to do is emulate a post to an SMS gateway using HTTP or there own proprietory system of commands which you could interface with by opening a socket to there system.

The problem is, finding a gateway to use.

let me try to explain in english

SMS providers have web based systems...

you just make it look like a browser is filling out that form when in reality its just your script

if they are using a nice language this could be easy and you could just use fopen() to get a URL

if they require an HTTP POST, then you would need to use fsockopen() and have to emulate an HTTP connection (its fun)

This PHP script will allow you to interface with an SMS client. It's a good example.

Yes, they would mind about that. Basically you have to make a contract with them and the fees could be pretty high - depends on the operator though.

If I would have $10000 extra, I would start my own logo/ringtone service here at Finland, but unfortunately I don't

hmahonen - you don't need that much money, simply co-locate a Cobalt Raq, connect a mobile phone via serial link and have it powered from a mains adaptor then you could iterface to the phone from the server and send SMS messages. The only down side to that is, I doubt many places would let you co-locate a mobile phone near all those servers - but it is an idea.
