    need help to find course

Hi! How are you? Me fair. I am a 36 year old or young man, I am interesting of taking a course in Webmaster or lets say in Web Design for businesses or organizations, and I am interested in the Content Management Systems also, I would like some help to find an online or correspondence course, I do not have a lot of money so I am not traveling well, so it has to be online or coresspondence. I am searching for something here in Canada would be of preference, but if there is some in other countries which is not that expensive with the money exchange it will be something to think about, I am searching but it is not evident, especially here in Canada, maybe I am not searching well. I need help, I am really serious about my inquiry. I really like computers and to study how online communities are built.
I wanted to open one for mental health purposes, but I think we have to be a webmaster or a specialist in this before plunging in those endeavor, that course is not just for personal purposes, but for a career or to be a consultant in the future.
So if anybody in this forum or community can help, it will be very appreciated, you can not believe.
    Please help.
Thank you for your attention and collaboration.
    Take care.
Serge <----- This is how I look sometime.

Welcome to the sitepont forums Serge. I hope you will find them as helpful as I have over the years.

If you are interested in learning about Content Management Systems then that is quite easy, there are lots of different versions available on the internet for free. Some of them will require you to have a host that can run them, some of them you can run on your own PC if you download testing versions of msyql, apache and php. I've spend almost a year researching different 'free' or open source CMS systems that I wanted to use, and there are a lot out there, but I think I have found a good one in Mambo OS (www.mamboserver.com) . It has lots of different plug-ins that you can install to expand your community as and when you need it. I found it by reading about CMS software on http://www.cmsmatrix.org/

I hope you find this useful. You idea about running a mental health site is a very good one, there are not enough good sites around that deal with this particular illness.

Sorry that I cant help you with web design or webmaster courses, I just dont know about them..

    Good luck.

    Doug.

    Hi,

If you're seriously wanting to get into web design(visual aspects of a website), then I strongly recommend you enrol into a Graphic Design course. With that you will learn the key design principles which apply to both print and web. Even if you don't get taught web design, it is very easy to learn online with places like w3schools.com. Same applies to Content Management Systems.

Learning html is not hard, it's learning how to make effective designs that is, and that's where the graphic design skills come in.

    thank you

Hi! just wanted to say thank you both for your help, it is appreciated. But what I really need is to be an accredited Webmaster or Web designer. I need some papers in my hand to show that I am an accredited or at least that I have a diploma of Webmaster. I want that to be my job too. I am unemployed right now and it seems there is no end in sight. That is why returning to school as an online or coresspondence course will be of preference. Yes I know ther eis some CMS software or script available on the web, I do not know php or mysql ro other database system, I do not know hoe to work with them. I tried but I failed miserably. So this is why I want to take a full course in Webmaster and mastering all of it. So this is where I am at now. I heard and aware of mambo though and graphic design, I am searching on the web right now to get a free graphic software. Thank you for your help though.
If others can help, please do so.
    Thank you.
    Serge
    Take care.

flatan, I myself took one of them "Web Design" courses a year ago. Came out with pretty much no knowledge whatsoever. We were taught the basics Photoshop and the basics of html and then told to make a website using the two. We weren't even shown how to make layout or anything, so most people just made image only websites exported from ImageReady which is a big no no.

So I've basically had to learn everything from home.

I am ofcourse speaking for my course only, and I'm sure there are better ones, but nothing you can't learn at home.

Oh and the paper I got has not got me a job, I am now happy freelancing.

Having a certificate will not make you a webmaster and most of the courses out there are a waste of time and money.

If you want an inexpensive way to get an introduction to web design, try one of the Barnes & Noble courses - http://university.barnesandnoble.com...rid=BQv1Ob3R9N

    thank you

Thank you the two of you. You have made me thinking very hard now. I will ponder on this very strongly in the days to come, a Graphic design course is a given, it is prerequisite to web design I agree with you two on this, and yes sometime a paper does not mean that much, my borther is a psychology major and what his is doing now he is a Interior Decorator. I understand that very well. I went to some courses offered online r from coresspondence I agree with you, there is some, they are not worth that much. Lets say for example, an organization call me to create a website for a radio station and a very large website too like a community and a request line and all those options, well those courses which are offered online or by coresspondence, we do not learn anything about that. Like streaming technology and using flash and using all kind of programs, I completely agree with you on this.
Thank you for your help, you made me thinking. Which this is good.
    Take care.
    Serge
