    Hi,

I was wondering if any of you were streaming videos on your network, especially with a high level of access or with 50+ videos (at least). We want to start a media site and offer at least 100 videos that will be streamed and all in the several Mb's and we want to know if we go with the good hardware and softwares.

    We figured to start with:

-RealServer Pro 100 (offers 100 simultaneous users)
-Dual capable system with at least 1 Intel Xeon 700Mhz and 512Mb RAM.
    -4.5Mbit/sec. fiber optic line

Is this enough to start or do we need more?

Any advices would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

I was on a project last year to develop a network video server for a university (placement year).

That spec should sort you out since the max RealG2 Stream size is 256kbit/s or 500Kbit/s can't remember without looking it up... it's the corporate LAN setting.

The most bandwidth i used for a broadcast was when I was testing realtime MPEG encoding. I sent the 2000 wimbledon tennis final to the local subnet, so people could watch it without going to the video room. This used a 2.5Mbit/s MPEG1 stream, and the picture was perfect maximized on 800x600 screens :O)

You are going to want to upgrade the server- the Xeon 700mhz. Since you are going to have simeltaneous users, which means a trafficed site, you are going to want to have a dual processor server. Also- max the ram if you can. Possibly load balance?
