Just saw that. Still trying to figure out how it works.
I run an insurance company directory at InsuranceCompanies.net

Why? It's very interesting!Originally Posted by Dolphin12

Hmm... I also wonder how one could join that Google WebSearch program... I have no clue yet... Anyone?
Edit: Nevermind. I spent some time reading and found out by myself. Silly me.![]()

I'm curious if I can take the websearch form and hardwire it to only do sitesearches. Is that against the TOS?
That's what I've done, the default code that Google gives you is quite messy and would be out of place. If it is against their TOS i'll quickly remove it.Originally Posted by levik

Hmm, i can't access this page... i don't know what's going on...Originally Posted by Huscy
Awesome tool, you can create your own search page with your own logo, and it has ads at the top and buttom, more $$$ coming.
Thanks google, I hope the rates will be good.

I just got the email and I'm looking forward to implementing some of this. It looks very promising.
searchfeed has been doing this for months, basicly your just sending traffic to other sites for free and maybe get a few clicks on sponsored ads, anyone else not excited about this?

If I understand it correctly, the money you earn by using WebSearch is not included in the AdSense earnings. Thus, in order to receive payment, you will have to earn at least the $100 min before receiving any monies earned using the search tool.
A note to Kirkland you have made a mod to the search tool, which is against the TOS. You cannot make any changes to the code, read the WebSearch TOS.

You can limit the search to your own site with the click of a button, so I like that quite a bit. It's better than my own site search and I get a little cha-ching if someone leaves.Originally Posted by dethfire

I need to re-read that part about the payout. That would kind of suck. I'll take it though.Originally Posted by higgy
Also, I'm willing to bet Kirkland's changes *will* be acceptable. I'm going to email google about it. Otherwise that thing is a little hideous to be putting in my designs. But that's up to google and I'll make sure I abide by the rules. But I think they'll allow that kind of customizing. It's not like tampering with adsense.

I copied the code from your page and put it on a blank html doc on my computer and it worked fine. The problem is somewhere else on your page I think. It looks like you have a form that doesn't end before that one begins.Originally Posted by nate.s

i didn't understand exactly how works adsense combined with websearch and how will increase the adsense earnings.. and when i log into adsense i don't see anything related to websearch @_@ what am i missing @_@
So we can't edit the code at all? Or should we all just e-mail Google and ask them if it's okay?

True, this is just a second-level search program (you don't make money unless they search and then click on an ad) but it is Google, so I'd feel much more comfortable running it than one of the other search programs that seem like phony search engines.
I'll play with it and see if it makes any money.

It is a great first step, but I don't get this (from the announcement email):
Users do have to leave the site in order to view the Google search results. Parsing an XML feed into a site results page would be optimal, so then for search related sites, Google results could be delivered on our own pages without the user being taken to the co-branded Google page."Simply placing the code on any web page that meets our program criteria will generate a WebSearch box, allowing users to search without leaving your site, and providing additional revenue for you."
SearchFeed does practice this, as does MyGeek and mozDex mozAds (in the works I believe), but we all know AdWords advertisers shell out big bucks for some search results listings on Google - making it a premier option.
IF search box appearances can be altered as we have questioned in this thread, that is a nice second step... a nice third step would be the ability to include AdSense only ads in search results.
This is however, an accepted alternative![]()
The code should not be tampered with unless Adsense specifically approves it.
From what I understand, earnings between Adsense content-ads and the new Adsense search-clicks will NOT be kept separate. But they will be REPORTED separately, which is good.
Overall, this appears to be a great addition to an already-great program.
But I am seeing two problems thus far:
Site searches are turning up adult ads, above and below the site-search results
-- even when the Safe Search feature is on. (But the Web searches with Safe Search are functioning correctly.)
Also: There's no way to use a wild card to filter out search results from one's own site (using Site Search). For example, excluding all *.php pages.
