1. No, it works like this.

Number all the bags 1 - 10.

Take one marble from bag 1.
Two marbles from bag 2.
Three marbles from bag 3.
.....
Ten marbles from bag 10.

You will have removed 55 marbles from the bags.

Place all the marbles you have removed from the bags on the scales and weigh them all together (just once). If all the marbles weighed 10 grams then the total weight would be 550 grams. However (depending on which bag contains the 9 gram marbles) somewhere between 1 - 10 of those 55 marbles weighs 9 grams - so the total weight will be less that 550 grams.

The weight will tell you which bag contains the 9 gram marbles.

Weight = 549 grams -> there is one 9 gram marble on the scales so therefor the 9 gram bag must be bag one.

weight = 548 grams -> there are two 9 gram marbles on the scales so therefor the 9 gram bag must be bag two.

etc ...

If you have to find the total weight of 549g then you have to use the scales more than once, don't u?
no you put all of the marbles on the scales together (as described on the first line of the solution) and record the weight.

if the weight = 549 then its bag 1, if the weight is 548 then it's bag 2, and so on.

-edit: you got there first :O(

4 men (A,B,C, and D) are burried up to their necks in sand on a firing range.
To save the lives of all four men, one man must correctly identify
the colour of the hat on his head, and shout it out.

Rules:

1). 1 Man is behind a brick wall facing the other 3 men but can't see them.
2). The other 3 men are on the other side of the wall in a line facing the wall.
3). The men are not allowed to talk to each other.
4). The men are not allowed to turn thier heads.
5). The men know that there are 2 red hats and 2 white hats.

4. Question

When you say, the men are not allowed to talk to each other, do you mean the 3 men on one side of the wall or all 4 men?
