    I don't think there is any standard way of doing but I think that it may be possible to do it in IE5.5/Windows. I remember reading that in that browser you could change the scrollbar colours.

    I'm not sure if it also applies to the select control colours.

    The broswer you use might be the reason it is isn't working. Unfortunately, my bro won't update IE to 5.5 so I can't test it out, but to change the normal scrollbar, the code is

    <STYLE type="text/css"><!--
    BODY {
    scrollbar-base-color: color;
    scrollbar-track-color: color;
    scrollbar-face-color: color;
    scrollbar-highlight-color: color;
    scrollbar-3dlight-color: color;
    scrollbar-darkshadow-color: color;
    scrollbar-shadow-color: color;
    scrollbar-arrow-color: color;
    }
    --></STYLE>

    Hope that this may help you in some way.

    Since my last post I found the following bit of standard css and I think it should work but I can't get it to work in any browser.

    Code:
    select > input[type="button"] {
      background-color: #cc66cc
    }
