    float problem in NS 6.2

    Well I just received my book, "Designing Without Tables Using CSS" from the sitepoint collection.

    So I began to play around with a basic login block, I put it together, rendered nicely in IE6, but when I opened it up in NS6.2, my input labels are missing. I know it has to do with the float left attribute:

    Code:
    form p label
    {
    	font-weight:      bold;
    	float:            left;
    }
    But I can't figure out how to fix it.
    Here's the entire page:

    Code:
    <!doctype html public "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head>
    <title> Login Form </title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-type"
        content="text/html" charset="iso-8859-1" />
    <style type="text/css">
    body
    {
    	font-family:      verdana;
    	color:            black;
    }
    h1
    {
        font-size:        15px;
        color:            white;
        background-color: blue;
        border-bottom-style:solid;
        border-bottom-width:2px;
        border-bottom-color:black;
        margin:           0 0 0 0;
        padding:          0 0 0 5px;
    }
    h2
    {
        font-size:        11px;
        color:            white;
        background-color: blue;
        border-top-style: solid;
        border-top-width: 2px;
        border-top-color: black;
        text-decoration:  none;
        margin:           0 0 0 0;
        padding:          0 0 0 5px;
        clear:            both;
    }
    a:link, a:visited
    {
    	text-decoration:  none;
    	color:            white;
    }
    a:hover
    {
    	text-decoration:  underline;
    }
    div.ctrbox
    {
    	position:         absolute;
    	top:              100px;
    	left:             50%;
    	margin:           0 0 0 -150px;
    	width:            300px;
    	border:           solid black 2px;
    	background:       lightblue;
    }
    form, input
    {
    	font-size:        11px;
    }
    form p
    {
    	width:			  250px;
    	padding:          0px 25px;
    	clear:            both;
    }
    form p label
    {
    	font-weight:      bold;
    	float:            left;
    }
    form p input
    {
    	float:            right;
    }
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div class="ctrbox">
    <h1>Please Login</h1>
    <form action="<?php echo ( $target ); ?>" method="post">
    <p><label for="login">Login Name:</label>
       <input type="text" name="login" size="15"/></p>
    <p><label for="password">Password:</label>
       <input type="password" name="password" size="15" /></p>
    <p><input type="submit" value=" Login " /></p>
    </form>
    <h2>Forgot your password? <a href="lostpassword.php">Click Here</a></h2>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>
    Hope someone can explain this to me. I was basing this on the form example on page 133 of the book, if you have it.

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Its a bug in NN 6.2

    http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=134869

    You'll have to find another way to style it if you want to support 6.2 I'm afraid.

    That said, every stat that can tell the difference says that NN6.2 is very much a minority among gecko-based browsers.

    Nearly everyone who ever used it has upgraded to NN7 or Mozilla-based browsers. The bug is fixed in most of those (I believe NN7.0 has it, but it was fixed in 7.01), so personally I'd be tempted to say "stuff NN6.2," but it's your call.

    I agree, I was just fiddlin' around, since this was the only NS browser on my PC, I opened it up, stumbled across the bug, and pulled my hair out for a couple hours. I've since grabbed a couple other browsers for my testing.
