According to my log, 120 attempts at accessing favicon.ico have failed. Does that mean 120 people have bookmarked my site? If so, that is really good! I just opened the site four days ago. I just added a favicon though, so hopefully I will start seeing lots of succesful tries at accessing it, hehe.

I don't know much about favico.ico but I don't think that that's 120 bookmarks. Check how many visitors you even got (excluding you, that's the important part! ).

It's most likely IE looking for it so that it can put it in the address bar instead of the default "blue 'e' on a page" icon.

Sorry to ruin your spirits, but I don't even think you have that much traffic to warrent 120 bookmarks within only fours days of opening. Do that many people even know that your site exists?

I installed the AXS counter script the same day I put up the website... it is reading 7828 right now. I set it to ignore visits from my IP address.

Really?!? That's impressive, how did you manage to get so many visitors within just 4 days of opening? Where are these people comming from?

It's up to 7,951 hits now.

It is a hardware website, and the hits are going to a few new articles that I posted recently which other webmasters of similar sites linked to.

favicon is requested every time a person visits your site.

It is not only displayed for bookmarks but it is displayed in the address bar if it is available.

I don't understand what is going on...

You have 8000 hits already and yet you have only 120 favico requests... IE looks for that on every page and it is the only browser that does that.

It's also the most popular browser (75%+) and yet you only request for 8000 hits?!?

I don't get it, can anyone explain?

IE doesn't look on every page. It'll look once per person.

120 or so unique IE visitors. Also for whatever reason this feature may be turned off or something else. And there may be more requests for it you just dont see.
