    Question Can't view site

I am having problems setting up apache with VH.
Everything was running smothly a few weeks ago untill I had to do a reinstall.

I have tried to retrace all my steps and configs but I can no longer view my site.

I am using a router to conect to the net so I have set the ip address of the router in the VH section as welll as adding the ip address of the server and the router to the windows host file.

    Attached is config file.

I would be greatfull of any help.

    Thanks

    Replace line 936 with
    NameVirtualHost *

    Replace line 952 with
    <VirtualHost *>

    Replace line 962 with
    <VirtualHost *>

Delete lines from 1067 to 1069
    They are:
    #server configs
    ServerName pharaohweb.dyndns.org:80
    ServerAdmin webmaster@pharaoh.net.au

    p.s.
Make a backup copy of this actual httpd.conf

The next minutes I need to go out and I'll be online tomorrow morning (GMT+2).
If you can do this test soon I'm online the next few minutes...

Trying to type the ip address what do you see ?

I think you should configure the router to pass traffic at port 80 to your pc.

    The router is fine.
when i type the ip address i still get the same message.
500 internal server error or cannot find server.

FYI the ip address is 202.72.177.77 however i sometimes get this ip comeing back to me as my IP ADRESS - 202.72.131.230 dont know why as i have a static ip???

    cheers

The first ip didn't work at all, the ping told me ``timed out''.
The second IP told me a 403.

But the 403 that the second ip told me was not generated by Apache but by a server called NetCache.
I still think that the router won't allow traffic at port 80 to be passed to your local pc on your network.

If you stop your Apache and I will try to visit that IP I think I will still see that error.

I have to say that I don't know how to configure those routers!

Now: http://202.72.177.77/ gives me the content of a directory:
    Apache/2.0.49 (Win32) PHP/4.3.6 Server at 202.72.177.77 Port 80

    while: http://202.72.131.230/
still gives to me a 403

what's the correct ip to be used ?

I would assume that it would be 202.72.177.77 as that is the address that it was originaly working on.

I cant see anything at the moment as I cant get the service back up. I keep geting and error " the requested operation has failed", have rebooted the system but that did not work.?????

i'll let you know when i am back on.

    cheers

    OK,

I can access the site now from both of my machines, both from "localhost" and the FQDN, however when I try to view the site from a friends computer, nothing shows up. Just an error page "can not find server"

I also have a problem with a second VH not showing up at all.

This is how I have both VH setup.

    <VirtualHost 10.0.0.2>
    ServerAdmin webmaster@pharaoh.net.au
    DocumentRoot c:/apache2triad/htdocs
    ServerName www.pharaohweb.dyndns.org
    ServerAlias pharaohweb.dyndns.org
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php default.htm
    ErrorLog c:/apache2triad/logs/www.pharaohweb.dyndns.org-error.log
    CustomLog c:/apache2triad/logs/www.pharaohweb.dyndns.org-access.log combined
    </VirtualHost>

    <VirtualHost 10.0.0.2>
    ServerAdmin webmaster@pharaoh.net.au
    DocumentRoot c:/apache2triad/htdocs/pause
    ServerName www.pause.homeip.net
    ServerAlias pause.homeip.net
    DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.php default.htm
    ErrorLog c:/apache2triad/logs/www.pause.homeip.net-error.log
    CustomLog c:/apache2triad/logs/www.pause.homeip.net-access.log combined
    </VirtualHost>

    Thanks

When trying to browse http://www.pharaohweb.dyndns.org/ I have a 403 forbidden, but as I said it not apache saying that.

I think the problem is not apache but it's how your router was set, imho...

OK, but I have been able to view the pages be fore through this router. the only thing that has changed is that i have added another computer to the router and installed the server on that machine.

That, however sould not make a difference, should it? as the router would not have changed its settings automaticly.

what if you try the IP Address http://202.72.177.77 what do you see?

Won't point to anything...even a ping said timeout.
So that IP, dynamic I assume, in this moment is not connected to a pc actually.

    will resolve to 202.72.131.230
Trying to type the fqdn or the ip I have this

    Code:
    http://202.72.131.230/

    GET / HTTP/1.1
    Host: 202.72.131.230
    User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.6) Gecko/20040206 Firefox/0.8

    Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5
    Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate
    Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7
    Keep-Alive: 300
    Connection: keep-alive

    HTTP/1.x 403 Forbidden
    Date: Tue, 01 Jun 2004 12:13:20 GMT
    Content-Length: 257
    Content-Type: text/html
    Server: NetCache appliance (NetApp/5.5R4D2)
    Age: 144
    Connection: keep-alive
    ----------------------------------------------------------
as you can see the Server is not saying apache!

    Ok,

I have a static IP of 202.72.177.77 according to my ISP, and 202.72.131.230 is the proxy IP.

I dont get anything when i type in the proxy ip. do i need to set anything up to tell it to use the proxy ip?

i have done a check and this is the info i came up with:

I think this argument is going out my knowledge which is related to Apache only.

Could I take the freedom to move this thread into the previou section ?

I'm sure there are tons of experts there...

    Hey Pharaoh,

If you can see apache internally ie: localhost or FQDN then the problem isn't apache. Your router or firewall is blocking your Apache machine.

I use a proxy server setup for my internal network and run my webserver completely detatched from the internal network. I won't be much help with specific hardware but maybe if you list what you router you're running along with the OS on your apache machine someone else might have some input.

    Are you running Linux?
I'm running Apache 2 on Fedora with one of mine. Fedora asks you if you would like to open up traffic on network ports for Mail, FTP, HTTP, etc... during intallation.
If you skip this part they will be blocked from all traffic except local.

A couple of things that might help are:
Go to your apache machine and find the ip in a terminal/Dos window
    Linux: type ip addr
    Win/Dos: type ipconfig /all

You should be able to find some usefull information there. If you're on an internal network you will probably end up with something like 192.168.0.xxx.

You also might be able to find the ip address of your machine by going to a forum that logs and displays your ip with the messages you post. Try that with the apache machine and see what happens.

Otherwise it's up to someone who knows your router.

    Cheers & good luck,

Your router probably blocks incoming port 80 requests and thats probably why you get the NetCache thing. Try edit your router setup to allow your PC as the DMZ host.

    FYI

Router: Alcatel Speed Touch Pro 4 Port Router
    OS: WinXP Pro

Port forwarding has been set up as I have been able to view the pages in the past.

Maybe I should reset the router to defaults and start again.

In Fedora, do I have to set the ports in the router or will it open them automaticly?

    What is a DMZ Host???
