Talking OnClick -> Save an image to the desktop??

I have a thumbnail image in my photo gallery. Is there a javascript that would enable me to allow my viewers to simply left click on a thumbnail of the picture and then have the larger version of the picture automatically save to the users desktop or do you think that would be a bit intrusive?

You simply cannot do something like that without the user being prompted to confirm the save. You cannot even pick the desktop as the default directory. There's a nice example here of how to take advantage or clicking the mouse though:

well the thumbnail links to the big JPG and the browser opens the big JPG in a window.

Is there a way that I can tell the browser to prompt for a save as dialog box when clicking this one link instead of loading the image in the browser?

That would be pretty good too. I would want it to work on left click only.
