    Hi,

I did a logo for some guy who posted something on a forum. Now when I showed him the logo he took it and never paid up! I only asked $60.

How do you guys make shure that you don't get screwed by customers??

Have him sign a contract and collect a deposit before doing the work.

Does bozo live in the same town as you?

(Without any agreement to the contrary you do still own the copyright to the logo)

No, he doesn't live in the same town as me, I would have known what to do then , he doesn't even live in the same country!

I'm not a pro, i don't have somekind of company on the web, I just do something when people ask me to so I really don't know anyhing about contract things and how to let him sign a contract that is on the other site of the world!

I always ask the person to pay half before I start the job to make sure they're legit. If they do pay then I know for sure they're serious. I had one guy ask me to come up with a prototype design, and he said he would decide once I showed him. Well when I showed it to him I never heard from him again, and I'm guessing he probably used the design. I could burned the first time I didn't keep my policy.

What country? What Web site? Do you have a physical address?

Write him one more letter calmly explaining the situation and demanding payment. Give him an amount of time to respond by (i.e. 7 business days). If he doens't respond or you cant reach an agreement begin contacting his ISPs regarding his unauthorized and illegal usage of copyrighted materials (i.e. your logo). ISPs take this very seriously as under the Digital Millinimum Copyright Act they may be fined for allowing such violations.

If it comes to that write back for some extra pointers.

I never release a graphic to anyone unless I emboss a big SAMPLE stamp right over the top. The result is a graphic that is 99% finished and can be used to evaluate whether it is what the client wants.. but they would need to really do some serious editing to remove the sample stamp.

So if the wanted the final copy without a sample stamp.. they have to pay me for it. Simple enough to do and I've never had anyone complain.

hstraf, thats a great idea. I think I'll do that. I did a design for someone and they haven't paid... not good.

    Beat me to saying.

Works all the time. Depending what image program you use just make a layer for the SAMPLE
image. Makes it much easier to remove when payment is received.
