The favicon
I know 2 ways of doing a bookmark icon:
- You create an icon, rename it to favicon.ico and put it in the directory where your site is.
- you add in the head-section of your html a link tag like this:
<link rel="bookmark icon" href="(X)" />
where (X) is the link to the icon on your webserver

AFAIK there is no standard. The safe bet would be to use both. I find using the <link> version seems to work best with Mozilla browsers but that's just a casual observation I've made.

Yup, put it in the top level directory of your site and link to it in the head section. Works great on Firefox, OK in Opera, and IE just displays it when it feels like it.
