Basketball Score database help

Hi, my relative has a basketball league type of business. He makes his own website etc.. Now the problem is, we have to type in the scores of the games manually in html tables. We want to integrate a database so we can use Access to type in the scores and use it to update the site.

Can anyone help me out on how to start doing this? We dont want to buy the software to keep track of scores, because is not customizable.
If anyone can tell me how to start, or any related resources that can share with me, that will be great. thanks a lot in advance!

ya you can create some entry forms in Access, and the best part is is that it's pretty easy. Do you already have Access available to you? Go to the help section and start reading up on form writing...you can get some up in no time. I can't go into step by step detail, but what you're wanting (relatively simple...which is good!!) is definitely doable in Access. Only thing is, and I'm assuming you're new to setting up a multi-tier site, is that you're gonna need some server side scripting to talk w/the DB. You've mentioned your HTML site, and wanting a DB, but you need something server side for anything to happen.

Hi null~ thanks for your fast help. Yeh i want to use Access forms. For the server side scripts, what exactly do I need? Im a very newbie to these database stuff. I really hope I can learn here. I know my server supports php and mysql , im just confused how i can put everything together. : (

oh btw, i have taken course on ms access , queries , forms etc, but i dun know how to implement it to the website / database . if would be great if u can teach me abit on that.

We're kinda in the same boat I've played w/3 tier development only through school, and just got hired on as developer (after working 3 years as a part time tester) @ work. My experience is mainly w/Java, but I'm just now learning PHP.

Have you used PHP in any of your websites b4? If you're familiar w/the code already then it's just a matter of learninghow to make the connection, and extracting the data...and naturally, you're knowledge grows from there. Else, if you're new to PHP, just pick up a book and start learning...it's really not to hard to pick up.

actually, the boards are for letting others see what's going on in the thread, and that's pretty hard to do if you guys take your discussion off the boards and into PM messages

gees rudy, sometimes I get the impression you like to give us intern level developers a hard time.

Communicating help (via PM or public post) is what these boards are about, that's what I meant. After all, this board does support the option.
