If an antivirus program, such as Norton Antivirus, detects a virus on your system, can it virtually always delete it or are there instances where it cannot delete it even though it can detect it?
Thanks

Yes, is possible..
If the O.S. or another program look the file, the AV software can't delete the infected file.
Bye!

Indeed....if the thing is still running or if you ain't got the rights to delete the file (i.e. file tagged as system file and you're no admin)...the safest way to really get rid of a virus if such a problem occurs is to boot into safe mode and let the AV handle the rest there....

Good point.
Also do not to forget to run Ad-aware 6.0 and Hijackthis.exe. Most instances people feel they have a virus but it usually is a classic case of spyware.
Google hijackthis.exe if u do not have it yet.
