How to wrap text in a <td>

i have a table that dispalys data retrieved from a database and dispay it on the table. the problem is as more information is retrieved the <td> expands and doesnt look nice on dispaly.
is there a feature in <td> that prevents the text from expanding, instead it should be displayed on the next line. the same way in excel spreadsheet where we can wrap the text so it doesn expand beyond the edge on the screen.

    Thanks

well if there are no spaces in the text it might be tough...
you could using server side code to insert break after a certain number of characters....

I m using asp. how do i insert break space in asp?
i want to specify the width of the <td> so that after it reaches the limit, it should go to the next line. is it possible to do it by setting attributes just in the <td>?
can i do it in the database? i m not really sure. do you have a snippet of code?

    cheers
