    AlcoBuds.com - Please review!

    Hi everyone,

Can you please check out my site - www.alcobuds.com and give me feedback on all elements of the site through various browsers.

I'm particularly interested in whether people think the colour scheme works well or does not and if not what adjustments do you think will help.

All feedback & comments welcomed and desired.

I have started making the site HTML 4.01 compliant and CSS compliant - not all pages have been converted!

I have also thought of adding a Shout Box type thing to the main page to get comments from non forum members - good/bad idea?

Oh yeah, look at the forums and comment regarding how they fit with the site.

Looking at the site again, the color scheme for the main content is too contrasted; the black background, white text and blue links dont do it for me. But the overal design looks nice. I always think its nice to always have links underlined, just to make things less confusing.

When I first look at the page my eyes drift to the second middle box "Tuesday April 20th." I do not seem to notice the name of the site, or focus on the logo.

My first approach to the site is, I must say, rather indifferent. The site just lacks something that I can not put my finger into. First thing is the identity of the site, which I personally feel is very weak. You should focus on the branding aspect even if itís not a commercial site. By branding I am referring to, for example, the color identity from which visitor identifies the site with.

However, after exploring the site, one is positively surprised with the good ( and tasty ) updated content that it provides. Everything is well structured, and the navigation system of the site is well adjusted and serves itís purpose.

First impression? It's a nuke-style site. Everything is a bit too tight (there's no padding anywhere) and a bit too cramped.

I'd expect a lot of content on a site like this, but there isn't anything to tell me what's important or where to look, so I end up just darting my eyes everywhere.

Still have no idea what's important to me as a user.

It's nota bad idea or site, just everything needs some more organization, prioritization and breathing room. A few minor tweaks should handle this nicely

I like it... maybe make the box grey so it doesn't look too dark but very nice and clean

Text is often hard to read. It needs padding. The links colors are also a little hard to find with the black.

The balck backgrounds don't look good and make the text hard to read.

I don't like the bright blue background in the headers, that color always has an unprofessional look to me, but of course that is a personal thing.

As mentioned above need some padding for the text boxes and it's a php nuke looking thing, nothing sepcial.

You page header is actually quite nice but I think you might want to rethink everything below that.

    Hi,

I hope I can provide you with some meaningful tips.

I mentioned this to the other guy I just responded to, but it's also applicable to you as well - you should limit the amount of news that is displayed on the front page - you have too much, and I have to scroll far too much to see what else is on your site. Try to limit this to 4 or 5 news items.

At the top of your site, you seem to have a strip or change of colour in your image. I'm not sure if this was done on purpose or not, but it looks out of place, and a bit awkward. I suggest removing this change of colour, or else doing a slight gradient mask to make it more appealing.

    Cheers

I agree about the amount of news. I think the colours are fine. And padding for text boxes is always a good idea

i think the "drunken stories" link should lead rigt to the forums, if someone clicks the link, obviously they want to see some good shyt, why make them click again? (unless it is disclaimer)

on the "drunken recipes" page find a JS script so people can either print, copy and paste, or email those individual recipes. or the entire page.

get rid of the blue box that says "Navigation"- there may be drunk dummies with hangovers lookin, but i think they can spot a menu without you tellin them=)

Add text links to the bottom, prob the same link you have on the miain nav bar, and add a "top" link.

This site looks cool man, what you need instead f celeb galleries are galleries from real HS and College parties. Some REAL tities and beerbong pics man!!

The colors are fine, I'd be more concerned about your image and how you are getting your message across. I almost hit the back button right off because I thought it was a porn site. Then I read your rather lengthy sell:

"Thank you for visiting us on www.AlcoBuds.com. We are a community based site, so join our forums and get to know us. Alcobuds offers you...blah, blah, blah"

Which by the way was littered with links.

The visual image your site conveys is rather sleazy. Girl posing in provocative positions has nothing AND I MEAN NOTHING to do with drinking beer. Nor should getting a girl drunk at a part end up in such a fiasco.

I think that your site is very deceptive. Then again maybe I've been on the wagon too long.

I can offer thatyou should also have frequent reviews of alchohols. Such as a review of the new Level Vodka. Maybe even some hazards like "Watch out for Rebull + Alchohol" (I had to learn that dangerous combo the hard way)

Like somone said before, if the site is about drinking beer and having a good time, more focus should be on that. while that may at times include babes.
