    Hello all,

I'm desperately seeking a good advertising solution for my websites. I have been using www.dot-banner.com for a while now, and feel I have outgrown its features... so, we need something better. I have anything in excess from approx. $0 to $750 to spend on a good advertising solution (script or hosted).

I've been looking at www.advertpro.com, and i love its features and capabilities, has anyone opinions on this product?

I need recommendations! quickly, using dot banner has become a pain for me

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Hi Mike

For that kind of (heavy) usage, I wouldn't advise you against going with anything that's not C/C++, becouse it's significantly faster than any other programming language, so probablly just the change to a C or C++ based program would make you a lot more comfortable. As you know, I'm not a database specialist, but I guess you also should use a myQL db...

Well, at least that's what I think... I'm sorry I couldn't point you out a specific program...

Not a bad idea really, except for the fact that the only half-decent advertising solution using c++ is AdJuggler, which I installed the demo of and did not please me ...

I've done so much looking around for a decent ad serving solution over the past 2 years, so I'll share with you all that I know. It's not very encouraging.

Let's establish impression levels first, because that can make all the difference: I serve 2 ads per page to 100,000+ pages per day at times. Yesterday I had 2 hours with 10,000 page views = 20,000 ads per hour = 5.5 ads per second. I consider that high, but your needs may be higher .. considering that dotbanner is not working ??

    WEBADVERTS
--I'm currently using the latest version of Webadverts (just released last month) with no problems. I DO have webadverts on the same dedicated server with my sites, one of which also uses lots of cgi. (This server has nice specs, which I am sure contribute to my success.) I have tried several ad solutions (and have studied many, many others) and always keep coming back to webadverts. While it doesn't have all the features I would like to have, it gets the job done. That's all I can ask for at this point.

    DOTBANNER
--dotBanner claims to support a huge # of impressions, so I'm not sure what would work for you! I bought dotBanner and wasn't happy with the interface.. I never got it running across my site because there were small things that I didn't like about it. I'm not sure how the performance would stack up on my site.

    ADVERTPRO
--I tried AdvertPRO last fall (before I was at the current impression level) and it failed miserably (performance-wise.. the features were great, though). Now AdvertPRO offers a fast_cgi version which may or may not work for you.. They claim it supports much higher impression levels, but I don't know. They might claim that it would work if you run advertpro on its own server... but that's just not cost-effective for me!

    ADJUGGLER
--I tried out the trial version of AdJuggler and besides being expensive, I had trouble getting it installed. (I'm talking about the Java servlet one). Part of that was because the server I was on didn't have the java servlet engine installed properly. I'm not sure how it would have performed if ever installed. The lesser AdJuggler is easier to install, but it doesn't claim to support the impression level I need, so I didn't try it.

    CENTRALAD
--I tried the CentralAd trial long ago, but I've not heard good things about it once you have a high impression level ("high" is probably what I serve in one day = 200,000 ???)

    SPINBOX / ADRUNNER
--There are other outsourced solutions you could try, including SpinBox and the new one that SitePoint uses (adrunner.com--I think!). SpinBox used to be reliable, but I quit using them last fall because it went down too much for the fee that I was paying. You can search the forums for info on them.. several people were having the same problems, including SitePoint (I suspect).

Well, no real recommendations... I wish I could find something with everything I need. However, like I said before, I just have to settle with something that gets the job done .. and that's Webadverts!

Atoz, thanks for your reply. Actually I got the AdvertPRO FastCGI up just 2 hours ago, on its own server. I've been testing it and gauging traffic to it, and it has been holding great for now, I'm very, very pleased with it, although it seems it does need its own server to deliver things correctly

Thanks a bunch for your information, this is really helpful since I never stop looking for improvements when I'm satisfied!

    Have a great day,

    Mike

Cool, I'm glad you've found something that may work for you. I did like AdvertPRO's features... which is probably what makes it require its own server! I'm sure you'll enjoy HUGE improvements (feature-wise at least) over dotBanner.

If you write an article, I just thought of 2 others:

    ADCYCLE (http://adcycle.com)
It's free.. Lots of people give this one high marks. I never tried it because I've heard it can't handle my impression level. It uses MySQL.

    phpAds (http://phpwizard.net/projects/phpAds/)
Another free one... It uses PHP and MySQL. I tried it for a brief time.. It has its good and bad points. This orginal version has been updated by someone else, and it's called phpAdsNew.. a link to it can be found on the script resource sites.
