    Virus removal questions

What steps are followed to try to remove a virus from one's computer besides using the common antiviral software programs?

Asking as a newbie-restating-does virus removal involve more than just activating an antiviral software program?

If there is/was no antiviral program already installed on a computer that now has a virus-what are the most common steps one would take to remove the virus?

    Very newbie on this topic

Just trying to learen more about it

    Thanks

A good place to go is http://www.symantec.com/search/. Search for the virus you think you have. If there is a removal tool or removal instructions they'll have them posted there. Then just follow the instructions or use their removal tool and you should be clean.

Yes, some viruses require more specific tools than just a regular antivirus program. The most important thing is to keep your antivirus software up to date, no matter which brand you have.
A lot of time the "viruses" that require special tools are not your run of the mill virus, they are trojans that effect multiple things on a system that cant be automatically repair by an antivirus program alone.

If you need a good antivirus program (for free) try this
