xhtml, java applets and object tags

i've been playing around with Processing http://processing.org and generated a little applet. the program also generates a simple HTML container page, which uses the APPLET tag. so far, so good...now, i'd love to now have a page in XHTML 1.0 Strict with said java applet, and this is where i'm stumbling over some problems...

all references i've found online so far show me how to use OBJECT to call an applet class. my applet, however, is not in a .class file (and no, i don't know anything about java, or applets, or whatever). i have a .jar and a .java file. how do i get the object to work properly with those ?

view the experiment at http://www.splintered.co.uk/experime...ails.php?id=33 and let me know if you have any ideas...

You have to compile the .java file (it's just source code right now). Do you have the Java SDK from Sun?

Once you compile the .java file, you should get a .class file with the same name. That is what you're supposed to link to.

well...i'll give it a shot. if i can't work it all out, then i'll settle with having the APPLET tag and a non-XHTML file...

Java applets using xhtml object tags

This page explains everything you need to know to convert from using HTML applet tags to XHTML object tags (with and without using jar files)
