Please ahve a look at this:
    http://www.4internationalstudents.com/

I need a background that will help fill in the white space in higher resolutions. This site ahs been designed to fit an 800x600 screen resolution. It works in all but in the higher ones it looks a bit odd with all the white space.

Please note this IS NOT A REQUEST FOR A WEBSITE REVIEW! I am just after a background image!

I'll review it anyway...looks great I personally prefer white background with black text as I find it easier on the eye. Couldn't you just have it centre in browser?

I wish, the client doesn't like it centred but maybe I will let her have a look at it centred and then put a background on it!

Thanks for your comments though, it was hard work, all the images provided to me were in TIFF format and huge!

Perhaps a script that only centers the page in resolutions higher than 800x600. Looking at it, it does look great btw, I couldn't visualize anything that wouldn't place too much weight on the right hand side and unbalance the page.

If you're pressed for an image, perhaps a tower. I think it's a legal requirement to build a college, so Preston probably has one. Maybe if you whitewash the image, it won't throw your page balance off.

Actually, I have been so busy lately I am getting by on about 4-5 hours a day! I can't keep it up forever, usually about once a week I catch up on my sleep debt and have a nice long 8-10 hour sleep! It is now about 4.24 am here and I shall probably be going to bed soon as I am up at 9am!

I'm looking at the site in 1024x768. Not huge but big enough to see what you're saying. I don't think the tower is going to work. But to answer the question. Most colleges and universities have a tower of one sort or another. Bell, Clock or one of those god-awful(SE USA euphimizism for ugly as sin) modern things.

Overall though I just don't like anything sitting in that margin. The site feels complete. I think you're going to have a hard time putting something there.

It only stands out while viewing the short pages. The pages where the bottom extends past the first frame don't seem to be as compressed (horizontally).

Wish I could have helped more.

    Nicky,

Try using this image for top6.jpg
    http://digitalwebpro.bizland.com/temp/top6.jpg

And try using this image for botbar.jpg (you will have to image-map it)
    http://digitalwebpro.bizland.com/temp/botbar.jpg

This migh make it look more contained instead of "cut-off"

Hope this helped a little bit

Note: If that still doesnt' help, leave the main cell's background white and change the page's background to a light/dark grey or blue, or maybe even a green and see what it looks like.

Chris thanks! I will try that tonight! However, the bottom links will need to be in text rather than as part of the image due to accessibility.

I tried them but it doesn't look right. There is still to much white space! I am goign to expereiment when I have time with some background images, but she is quite happy with the job so there is no rush!

I know it's not what your client wants, and I know it's already been said - but - Center!!!!!

The site is really crisp and any monkeying around adding fill or bg images is in my opinion going to detract from it's aesthetic quality.

    Nicky,

    Have a look at http://www.smoothlydoesit.co.uk/about/.

Could you do something similar with your top and bottom images so that at the end they fade to a solid colour that spans the entire width of the page?
