0-5 on Moogle, 2-5 on personal (well, nathanwwong.com was 3, but then /index.php and all other pages were 2.. was weird). This is awesome. All my posts here at SPF show up in link:

For those of you who go to WMW or other popular forums, are there any other discussions about this? Or is it just SPF?

I'm just going off linkpop. If you look at the Google backlinks for eBay they only have 18,200. Yahoo has 442,000, which is over 100,000 more than Google has. Yahoo has always been the most linked site, but you can go 3 pages deep into google and pages will still be PR10.

while i really appreciate the PR boost, my newest site went from a 0 to 5. that seems fishy, really fishy. i haven't done that much to gain links.

If there was a change in algorithm, it was how PR is shared from one site to the next. I have on site that is less than six months old and I have not promoted heavily that now has a PR5. I think it is getting a significant boost from my PR7 site that only has out going links that Google can see to my own sites. I wouldn't be surprised to see another adjustment to PR next month that counters some of the boost we see this month. I think Google will be going through a series of changes to make PR "more valuable" in their search algorithms.

2nd site is back down to 6 (from 7).

But honestly, I think it deserves a 6, not a 7. Main site is still 7, though.

I still get 7/10 for both your links (so does pagerank.net)

That caught my attention. I was under the impression that Google seemed to be dropping the importance of PR. A lot of websites have caught on to the PR game by managing their incoming links. If Google heads to a heavier PR judgement, that could open up easier abilities to tweak the rankings. Unless, of course, they decide to make changes as to where the link comes from- ie, your own site's links mean less, similar topic sites mean more, etc.

Is anyone else getting tired of trying to predict what Google's going to do next?

My goal is to be top 3 for "website tools", and I've been slowly moving towards that in 2004. Went from page 3 to 2 to 11 to 10 to 9 to 10... speculation is interesting to read, but I'm much more interested in my search ranks

Heh, speculation's usually worthless anyway. I'd rather spend my time working on my site than rather anticipate THAT giant.

Sorry, I didn't state myself clearly. I didn't mean that they were making PR more valuable in regards to the overall weighting of sites for purposes calcuating SURP results. I ment they were working to make PR more valuable in and of themselves by reducing the effect of sites trying to "play" the PR game. I also imagine that Google is trying to calculate the relevance of a given site based on the relevance of sites that link to it. In otherwords if lots of sites about blue widgets link to a given site that also talks about blue widgets those links would help make the site more relevant in regards to the phrase "blue widgets".

    hi

Im sure posting on SP increases your PR slightly. But i dont think it makes a great deal of difference.

Each backlink update shows more and more SP posts in my backlinks, which means they're passing enough PR to matter.

I noticed a drop in PR today. Microsoft's Windows update site dropped from an 8 to a 7, and one of my sites dropped from a 7 to a 6. My PR 6 and PR 5 sites were unaffected.

All the sites I run have sat at a steady PR of 4 for the past 4 months. I dunno where all this new PR is coming from but I sure would like some. It would rock if I could get my blog up to 6 or 7.

If your blog is good and interesting to others, it will reach a 6 or 7 in time. It is simply a matter of patience. It might take a couple of years.

    I think I'm at a solid 6 now--showing up consistently as 6 for a few days.

4 to 5 to 7 to 6 to 5 to 6 and now 5 (two rankings in one day).. but, my content entries are 5's and 6's.

What am I getting at... I'll keep on publishing quality and earning links, better than using link farm BS and risking it. Don't stress out about PR too much.
