Yahoo would give up on its half complete, shoddy, inconsistent yet alarmly popular directory and supplement it with DMOZ listings. Yahoo will never be able to complete quality wise with over 30,000 volunteers why don't they give up.

As it is they already indirectly include dmoz listings via google.

Why should they give up? Although it has been a long since I used Yahoo (I moved over to dmoz.org when I found it for the first time). But most people do NOT even know about DMOZ.org (those people who do NOT know the basic difference between a search engine and web directory).

Yahoo! people thinks that they have maintained a "quality standard". I've seen a lot of nice content-based sites missing from Yahoo! But most of the useless stuff have penetrated through Yahoo directory.

Although its NOT likely, but if they give up. They would be dependant upon ODP. No more shopping, email, etc. stuff. Most of Yahoo traffic might be converted to Netscape.

Not at all. Yahoo started as a directory but it has grown into much more. Like you said shopping, email, geocities, egroups, all of that is yahoo. They just need to realize that their directory sucks and they should just give up on it, fire all their directory staff, and concentrate on the rest of their business.

Yahoo Directory is the soul of Yahoo! (atleast in the eye of Yahoo! people). I also feel that Yahoo's poorly designed web directory should be closed and all the staff fired. Especially, after there decision to accept ONLY paid-submissions in Yahoo! directory, why should they close it? When 1000s of people submit there sites each days (by paying $200 each), they would be big fools to shut down there web directory. Yahoo! should change there policies regarding site acception and web directory structure.

I'm not saying they should switch from google, google is their search provider. I think they should change their directory from the shoddy yahoo one to the dmoz one.

it just really irks me that if my sites were listed in the appropriate categories I'd get 1-2 million impressions a month.

But no, yahoo only lists 1 of my 160 sites. And yet that one listing generates about 100 uniques a day and 500 impressions or so.

    Why oh why.
