Resubmitting

My site is currently ranked #2 in one of my major search terms in google. It has been about 2 months and it's time to resubmit the my site. Should I really resubmit?? Would this endanger my #2 ranking??

What about other search engines, even where I'm not as highly listed? Is resubmitting a smart thing to do?

I wouldn't re-submit. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Besides, Google's spider will re-visit your site eventually.

Good point!

What about other search engines?? I know in all the tutorials I read a long time ago it said to re-submit about every 2 months. Is this still good practice, or should you just let it be? I think when you re-submit to AltaVista you are actually deleting your listing.

I would say re-submitting after two months if you're not listed is a safe bet. What I've been finding, however, is that even re-submitting at interspersed times hasn't been helping me with certain engines (ie Excite). Some engines like Excite and I'd suggest perhaps even Direct Hit have only been updating quarterly (or less).

As for AV, you can and should resubmit if you find your ranking lower. OTOH, don't try to fine tune your AV ranking. If you're in the top 10 leave it be.

I think you're right. I think I was in the top 10 at AV one time, but then I resubmitted and now I can't find my listing even in the top 100.

Anyhow, I've learned more about search engines now and won't ever do that again!!
